The Maritime Museum
At a beautiful location in Amsterdam you will find The Maritime Museum.
Here you can discover everything about five centuries of maritime history and how strongly this is linked to society today and the future. Atmospheric object exhibitions such as the Republic at Sea and Cartography & Curiosa show the best of one of the largest maritime collections in the world. And don't forget to visit the VOC ship "Amsterdam", where you can experience what it used to be like on a VOC ship.
The clipper Stad Amsterdam, known for SAIL, is temporarily moored at Het Scheepvaartmuseum until September 1, 2021. Step aboard and discover the beautiful ship, which has recently been renewed. The captain and crew look forward to your visit.

The Main Gallery is the starting point of the museum visit. The exhibition Republic to Them shows how the Netherlands was formed as a maritime nation. The exhibition tells the story of the Republic in the 17th and 18th centuries on the basis of more than 50 masterpieces.
Cartography & Curiosa portrays the encounter with a new world. It can be seen how the Dutch navigators found their way from the 17th century and how these voyages determined the European world view.
